Cornflake Haystacks

Cornflake Haystacks

This is another one of those "I have a lot of random leftover pantry or snack items that need to be used up" recipes. For this specifically, I had a very large box of frosted cornflakes (I just need a couple cups of it for a previous recipe and had a bunch leftover.), a few opened, half used various flavors of chocolate and like...6-7 oreos. I was thinking...why don't I melt the chocolate, chop up the oreos and add a bunch of cereal for even more crunch, then mix everything together to create a haystack! I personally love crunch bars so this was right up my alley. You definitely can get creative with this too. Swap out the cornflakes for any other kind of cereal, add a type of nut like walnuts or almonds, add some potato chips...have fun with it!

  • A decent amount of chocolate. At least a bag or bag and a half. Or more. You can use whatever flavor you want. White, dark or milk. Or use something unique like butterscotch chips or PB chips. Or multiple kinds all in one batch. Really, any chocolate you need to use up. This will need to be melted
  • Any kind of cereal. About 3-5 cups. Frosted flakes, cornflakes, rice krispies, cinnamon toast crunch, captain crunch...
  • Anything else that needs to be used up and would probably taste good mixed in. Like oreos, chow mein noodles, quick cooking oats, pretzels, chips or nuts. This will need to be lightly chopped up.

  1. Melt the chocolate in a medium pot over a low-medium heat. Stay close and keep stirring so it doesn't burn.
  2. Real quick as the melting is happening, lightly chop up the snack add-in.
  3. Once the chocolate has melted all the way, add the cereal and extra crunchy things.
  4. Mix everything so the chocolate covers the cereal and add-ins.
  5. Once everything is drenched in chocolate, grab a spoon and a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Using the spoon, put a couple tablespoons onto the sheet. Create a mound or haystack shape.
  7. Once the sheet has multiple haystacks, place into the fridge for a few hours or overnight. Once the chocolate has hardened, they are ready to eat.
