Homemade Sour Cream (2 ways to do it.)
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup whole milk
- 2 tsp. white vinegar or lemon juice
or...
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup buttermilk
- Grab a clean mason jar or any type of similar container. Mix all of the ingredients together and shake a few times with the lid on. Don't shake too much or else it will turn into butter.
- After a few shakes, remove the lid and cover the top with a very thin towel or paper towel. Use a rubber band or string to secure the paper.
- For the next 24 hours, keep the cream on the counter at room temperature.
- After the 24 hours, remove the towel. There might be a slight separation, this is fine. Grab a spoon and give it a stir.
- Once everything is combined and smooth, put the lid back on and put it in the fridge. It will now need to stay in the fridge. When covered and in the fridge, it should last about a week.
