Hungarian Cucumber and Onion Dish

Hungarian Cucumber and Onion Dish

Recipes Sep 9, 2024

I have been told I have Hungarian blood and I believe it too because any recipe that claims to have a Hungarian background, I usually love it. I am also a HUGE cucumber lover. I love vegetables but if I had to pick just one to consume for the rest of my life, it would easily be cucumbers. Some would say this is a salad, some would say a side dish. I think it can be both. I also will sometimes make a huge batch and just eat it for my main meal with a little protein filler on the side, like shrimp or chicken. YUM.

  • 1 large cucumber, sliced (or 2 small/medium if it is off season)
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • salt and black pepper to your liking
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 small or half of a large onion, thinly sliced. A white or yellow onion works best.
  • 1/3 cup chopped fresh dill (this can be optional. I love dill but if you aren't a fan, not a big deal if you omit.)

  1. Chop and slice everything that needs to be chopped and sliced.
  2. Put into a large bowl and then add everything else. Give it a few good mixes so everything is covered and combined.
  3. Serve. Definitely double the recipe if you are feeding a large crowd.
