Kefir Bread (An Easy Sourdough)
- 2 cups self-rising flour
- 1 1/4 cups plain whole Kefir milk
- Mix both ingredients in a large bowl. Mix everything until a dough forms and everything is absorbed.
- Grab a clean towel and place on top of the bowl, covering the dough. Place the bowl in a warm part of the house. Keep it there for about 2 hours.
- Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Move the dough to a cookie sheet with parchment paper on top or silpat. You don't have to but if you want, try and shape the bread into an oval or any common bread-like shape.
- The bake time varies depending on how hot your oven gets. I find my bread is usually done anywhere between 35-40 minutes. I start checking around the 35 minute mark.
- Using a toothpick or knife, check the center. Once it comes out clean, minus a couple of crumbs, it is done. Also, there should be some browning on top.
- I am strongly suggesting that when it is fresh out of the oven (minus letting it cool a little so you can handle it w/o burning your hands) slice off a piece and spread a pat of butter on top. It is amazing. Once you are done having a warm slice, let it cool. It is great at room temperature as well.
